Buckhead News Roundup — November 3, 2026

Today was Election Day, and in Buckhead — as in the rest of Georgia — the day belonged to the ballot box, from morning voting on Peachtree Road to a historic result by nightfall.

Election Day in Buckhead

Polls were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Buckhead voters cast ballots at familiar neighborhood spots: Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church on Peachtree Road, Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, both Sarah Smith Elementary campuses, and the Buckhead Library. Turnout was already running hot before the day began — more than 2.8 million Georgians had voted early, breaking state records.

A Historic Night — With a Buckhead Address

By Tuesday night, Georgia had made history: former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was elected governor, the first Black woman ever elected governor of a U.S. state and Georgia’s first woman governor, winning about 54% of the vote over Republican Rick Jackson. Voters also returned U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff to Washington for a second term, and Democrats swept the down-ballot statewide offices. The Buckhead thread runs deep: Bottoms has told the story of childhood drives through Buckhead with her mother and grandmother, passing the Governor’s Mansion and saying, “I want to go in there one day.” In January, the mansion on West Paces Ferry Road becomes her official residence.

The Campaign’s Last Stops Ran Through Buckhead

Buckhead was on the trail right up to the end. Republican Senate challenger Mike Collins started his Election Eve in Buckhead at Georgia Republican Party headquarters before touring the state, while Ossoff rallied supporters in DeKalb County on Monday and gave his victory speech in Atlanta on Tuesday night, opening with “Georgia, you did it.”
